svshootingstar says:

Turns out it is € 557 (not USD) shipped from TradingShenzhen and considerably more from GearBest. You can probably get it for $580 USD if you are IN China. The 557 Euros converts to roughly $646 USD which makes it even less of a deal. The first gen Notebook Pro is a MUCH better machine for a little more money. I’m a big fan of Xiaomi products, but not this.

Thx for posting. Excellent video, as usual. Good machine, but imo it’s worth the extra money for the pro.

The worst Xiaomi Laptop, no laminated screen, no metal body, heavy and fat…

I think they can do it with all the above for the same price. Xiaomi mi notebook 12.5 with Intel m3 exist for 400$.

Chris. The latest Ubuntu 18.04 and its derivatives like Mint 19 should already have the Realtek rtl8821ce wifi driver included in the kernel, but people have reported that the driver won’t load in secure boot because it’s not properly signed. Can you check if secure boot is turned on by default in the UEFI firmware of the Mi Notebook? If so, you can try disabling it (if not locked down) and then boot into Mint 19. The driver should load automatically and the wifi will probably just work. This is a good trick to remember when testing Linux on other devices.

irata2006 says:

Great review! But the U.S.-China trade war makes it less feasible for Americans to buy this, at least until that whole brouhaha is over.
