I was surprised by how functional this phone is for its very low price. It can be a somewhat decent alternative to a more expensive iPod Touch.

Clearly Walmart is subsidizing the cost with the hope that those purchasing it will sign up for their mobile prepaid service. As such the phone is locked to Walmart Family Mobile if you want to use its LTE network connection. But it does not require purchasing a sim card for it to work.

All in this is a decent albeit slow mobile phone. Definitely a good value for the price but won’t compete with more expensive unlocked phones.

for $20 you get:

Smartphone with Android 6 Marshmallow
Camera
Music Player
Alarm Clock
Internet Browser
Video Game player
With some free apps you can turn it into a security camera.
Portable television (Kodi and HDHomerun)

What a great time for inexpensive portable tech.

Snowflake says:

cheap music player

Hugh Dinwiddie says:

Lon, it seems to me something like this could b used as a very inexpensive security/nanny cam using something like the Alfred or WardenCam apps. It wouldn’t be as good as a more expensive solution, but for $20? Pick one or more of those apps and try it on a future demo of a cheap phone if you think folks might like to see that.

SDSakuragi says:

And I thought my Chinese import phone was cheap LOL XD

rotaryfreak3 says:

Pair this with one of those cheap clip on controllers and you can have a halfway decent portable emulation gaming device for around 40 bucks.

Michael cole says:

Can you just get any Anyone who knows how to unlock a phone to unlock it. Some men just put any old ship in there

Mo Poppins says:

I like that $20 can get you a device that can be used as a tablet, and is usable without a SIM card. It’s only been about a decade since we had multifunctioning devices that could take pics and video, do voice recording, take notes (and more), and they cost a lot more money. What a bargain this is!

Corbin Davenport says:

1:45 – You said Android 6.0 Lollipop, I think you meant Android 6.0 Marshmallow 😛

Ann Elisabeth says:

Definitely a good choice for travelers who have phones that don’t work in the US, IF it works prepaid.

Richard Champness says:

the problem is they stick 512mb of ram on them android can not run productively on 512mb ram

Nate Fleming says:

I had to live with the pixi 4 for 2 weeks after my g3 blue screened. it surprised me how well it functioned. that is, minus the keyboard lag

I love these low-cost phone reviews! Keep them coming please

Gadget Addict says:

Wow, I was going to say we have 15 USD android phones here in the Philippines but LTE on a $20 phone? Awesome! Although I’m surprised they added LTE instead of GPS.

GamingWingIIZZ says:

Enrique Chacon says:

Hey Lon, you should do a review on the Blu Pure XR! it’s a 300 dollar phone that’s on sale for 180 on B&H. Check it out!

Tom Tom says:

It’s more innovative than the iPhone 7 so that’s nice

ray ray says:

If you live in america just get a used G3 on eBay for $50 they’re everywhere.

You should check out the ZTE Max XL on Boost for $100.

Decent for a back up.

John Squarez says:

I bought 3 alcatel pixi unite for 7.35 a piece at walgreens

SCREENPLAYHOUSE LLC says:

Lon — you had a great opportunity here. At the end of the video you could have said, “I’ve always wanted to do this” and toss the phone over your shoulder with a careless grimace. 🙂

Linked Designs says:

could you try streaming games from your PC to that phone via moonlight?

Ramases Bullock says:

Some people need a phone nothing more do $20 vs something like $300 makes a world of a difference

Gary L says:

Carmen Nooner says:

Reminds me of my Yoga Tab3 as far as lag and length of time it takes to download web content! Really enjoy the cheap stuff but would need a larger screen. Thanks for the review though. I seldom think about Walmart as a resource for my tech.

Warren McClure says:

So a $20.00 smart phone has an audio jack whereas a $700.00 + iPhone 7 dont. Pathetic, not trying to shit on Apple but taking out the audio jack is a mistake. Anyways nice review, surprised it scored higher in the gpu performance than the Moto G4 play

Minty Nuggets says:

Root this and get a sim on this that isn’t from Walmart
