MSI GS65 8RE (2018) GAMING LAPTOP review – they flipped the mobo!

Today LEO takes a look at the new MSI GS65 8RE which is quite pretty to look at but ships with some rather unusual design decisions.

He quite likes it, but there are some concerns for him which hold him back from giving it a full recommendation.

MSI GS65 8RE (2018) GAMING LAPTOP review – they flipped the mobo!

justin beamon says:

That is was an excellent review! I can see it is probably best to order through someplace like HDevolution and get it repasted, that should keep the temps well away from the 90’s and eliminate any thermal throttling. Otherwise seems like a great choice for the mobile gamer or creative professional.

Michael Gusevsky says:

Interesting thermal/air intake design. Quite nice I think I’d say

Russell Hickman says:

does msi still include bloatware on this laptop and if so is it any easier to remove??

Jose Garcia says:

Great review! Have you tried undervolting?

RegardingDisbelief says:

Have you tried undervolting? I’ve read that undervolting does wonders for this and the Aero 15.

Joalfer Moreno says:

excelente estos juegos…

Lee Greenway says:

Aero 15x is much much louder with the fans being at full speed a lot of the time. Did you mess around with the fan profiles on the MSI laptops ? seems to be tuned for silence and not performance.

I personally would not buy the GS65 RF with single channel memory, having to remove the motherboard to install a second stick and get all the performance it should already have is absolute madness. The Aero 15x also comes with single channel memory but at least you only have to take the back off to install a second stick.
With this GS65 8RE model coming as dual channel out of the box , hallelujah. Why oh why are the other similar laptops dual channel as standard, makes no sense to me and that makes this a much better option.

Shame I have already ordered a new Dell XPS 15 now that a dual channel sleek 1060 laptop is available.

Hekatos says:

@KitGuruTech how is the msi gs65 in workstation performance(like for videorendering). Is it compromiceble with the aero 15x. How bad is the phrotteling vs. Other laptops with this priceclass.
Is the msi gs65 his price worth?

Skinny D ́La Hoz says:

Andrew Blake says:

cool gadget fun to watch!!

Sam Fisher says:

Thin and hot gimmicks.

sabishiihito says:

The GS63VR and GS73VR were the same, flipped mobo. Biggest drawback of the Stealth line.

Demore Gains says:

I was going to buy this until I heard that hissing noise , those fans are loud!

xToxicXSkorpion says:

Is there any warranty void sticker on this laptop or not

Danial Fitri says:

Thanks KitGuru, really informative review and just what I needed. Nevertheless, it’s still a dilemma for me. cheaper price, risk throttling but better design(in my opinion) or higher price but better cooling system.

Fatfouti Mondher says:

MSI GS65 8RE is the best GAMING LAPTOP ever

Hari Krishnagudur says:

Good Laptop for gaming its really awesome product and cool presentation….

Rjeeez 95 says:

Great review! ,Will you do a Zephyrus gm501 review at all?

David J says:

Fantastic detailed review. The point of a reviewer, surely, is to look at similar products and compare them where appropriate. You have and it is really helpful!

This video explains working laptop that all right .

gr33n Tech says:

Your frankinrig fails on several tests, you test some parts on the top part instead of the bottom, the laptop can’t fit in a way to put it in a position for it, if you know what i mean, i like the frakinrig but it needs some adjust for laptops.

Limxzero says:

I have never seen that paper strip test done before…

Han Lockhart says:

Good review. The critical ones (even if they`re great) are the ones I trust.

LastManOnPlanet says:

What about the Aero 15 (without the X)? It has the 1060, too. I would like to see a comparison.

Pedro Estrela says:

Hi kitGuru! how does the keyboard click feel like?
My gold standard for laptops is Leneovo Thinkpad, namely the X1 carbon.
thanks!

tom rogen says:

Wonderful.

Winston Horn says:

It’s been flipped since the GS63 vr……

drago burnhard says:

pritty good review…. that is strange they are having overheating problems compared to other laptops…. also the battery is only 88wh compared to aero15 94wh…. i don’t suppose you are able to do quick run down of the bloatware installed currently on msi/gigabyte/asus laptops….. and what to remove….. also power settings for battery life and performance…. i know some manufactures like to mess with them to get better scores in different tests

Serj Star says:

do u by any chance have amazon link to this

Alberth Mathew says:

nice! cool laptop, saludos

STEMARSIMO says:

Hey, you said that the 8RF has singlechannel memory. I also got one and my 8RF is running dualchannel memory…

Michael Gusevsky says:

Very demanding taste uve got
