GTX 1660 Overclock! Lenovo Legion Y740 Gaming Laptop Review, Computer Desk Mods, Google Stadia!

Stream Any Game to Any Device: Google Stadia. Gaming Laptop Review: Lenovo Legion Y740, GTX 1660 Review & Overclock!

00:40 Google Stadia!
We were excited that Apple updated the iMac this morning… new CPUs and AMD Radeon Pro Vega GPUS… and then Google launched their special keynote from the Game Developers Conference: Google Stadia, aka, anybody can play badass PC games without a PC. Really???

06:57 Nvida’s GTX 1660 (Not Ti) Overclock!
Last week Nvidia released the $219 and up GTX 1660 -NOT Ti! Our friends at PCPer got deep into the benchmarks… It’s an excellent 1080p gaming card selling for less than the GTX 1060’s launch price. Is it worth your money? Is it faster than a 1660 Ti when you overclock it? Watch the video, as we use AfterBurner to overclock MSI’s GeForce GTX 1660 Ventus XS 6G OC!×1080-Game-B

16:23 Lenovo Legion Y740 Review
Lenovo’s Legion Y740 gaming laptop packs RTX 2070 Max-Q graphics and a Core i7 CPU. That promises serious performance for the 144Hz 15” screen, but did they manage to keep it quiet, or does it sound like a jet??? Are there really LEDs in the exhaust vents? Does it still manage to look professional? Does it support HDR? Watch the video!

27:16 Battlestation Mods!
Komei emailed with some tips to make your battlestation, or computer desk, easier to use! Find out the cool fixes and mods he’s made using Car Dash Sticky Pads, Silver Sharpies, labels, and his 3D printer in the video!

29:34 You can automate SyncToy!
Tom emails, “I caught your segment about Sync Toy on Episode 217 and you can in fact automate it. Sync Toy has a command line executable as well, so it can be automated with Windows Task Scheduler.” All the deets, and info on automating FreeFileSync are in the video!

31:40 What Are You Looking At???
John tweeted, “@patricknorton I have to ask because I see you looking off to an area behind the camera in just about every episode. 😀What are you looking at? @TekThing” The answer is in the video!

33:33 50 micron is -not- .5mm!
David Germain posted on, “50 micron is 0.05mm – not .5mm” Derp… you are correct, sir. Monoprice’s Mini Delta does 50 micron, aka .05mm layers in fine mode!

34:07 Thanks Hak5!
A big Thank You to Hak5 for the studio space! Check out the security and privacy podcasts at, then head over to to learn about the Plunder Bug, “Sniff packets and scan networks with this pocket-sized Smart LAN Tap.”

34:48 Do Something Analog!
Like Patrick’s boys, “who are heavily invested in studying the phylum Mollusca via our local Brown garden snail, aka Brown garden snail.” (There might be a snail habitat in the video…)

Ryo Kimball says:

Ubuntu-ify the gaming laptop! Linux on all the things!

Teddyballgame says:

I use multiple gaming platforms. I use the GeForce Now beta Streaming service on my Nvidia Shield TV. It is really good. The Nvidia Shield TV as you probably know is 4K resolution. The Nvidia Shield TV remote & controller is $ 189. I also game on an Xbox One X. I am going to wait and see. Phil Spencer seems like Xbox and MS are going all in on the cloud gaming.

JAFO-PTY says:

I always wanted to ask about Pat looking to the side… but I didn’t want to be rude. I always thought he was looking to the studio door or someone interrupting behind the camera…. now it all makes sense..

Lesenus says:

Are you sure that Lenovo Legion will handle 4h of gaming? Most of revievers said that 2,5h of office use i MAX you get on this laptop.

Hey Patrick next time you shoot a segment maybe you should clean up your kitchen . It was very distracting seeing all that stuff in the background.

J Ram says:

There is a 740 with 2080 and 17 inch screen, can you guys review that one? Thanks

Juan Castro says:

The saturation level is too high. Still love the show.

John Berger says:

LOL! Sorry! I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable with having to watch past videos of yourself! But I fully associate with that. That’s one reason why my podcast is audio only. 🙂 Thanks for the shoutout, though! Glad to be a patron!

alfred garcia says:

Hi guys thank you so much for your review. What do you think of the Legion Y740 vs the Eleutroniks laptops similarly configured? Price is very similar especially since I want a RTX 2060.

superblitz says:

Put Solus Linux on it

Michael Christensen says:

What’s up with the saturation? Everything is cranked up to 11

Victor Uribe says:

everything is so yellow

Johnny Phung says:

I read that one user ran Wireshark during a project stream beta and found out they were using Google’s QUIC protocol. Your thoughts on Google’s fancy newish internet protocol?

twstdelf says:

Y’all so yella!

Always Falling Short says:

OMG I am stealing that shirt.

Broken Stitch says:

I don’t know if you covered it yet, but some more info on SPADE would be cool. NVIDIA’s GauGAN to be specific, which is called semantic image synthesis with spatially-adaptive normalization. They have a GitHub page and all, but no code as of yet. My questions are how does this relate to gaming if it relates at all. Maybe more of a GDC question, but I’m on your page as I’m reading about it. That is, they have a paper on it over at Cornell University’s site called “Semantic Image Synthesis with Spatially-Adaptive Normalization”. Viewers might be interested…I feel like I’m repeating myself? I need sleep and or to fix my sleeping situation. I don’t feel rested.

Adisam says:

Can I not see your faces most of the time please? I would like to see stats from tests with temps of cpu/gpu and fps in games
