Asus ROG Strix Scar GL703GE Review – 6 Core Slim Gaming Laptop

Lisa Gade reviews the Asus ROG Strix Scar GL703GE 17.3” gaming laptop. It’s one of the first with the Intel 8th gen Coffee Lake 6 core CPU, and it’s relatively slim and light. This Windows notebook is also available in a 15.6” size and there are several GPU options (GTX 1050Ti, GTX 1060, GTX 1070). We look at the $1,249 model with a Core i7-8750H processor, NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti 4GB GDDR5 graphics and a full HD 120Hz wide gamut display. Our review loaner was provided by Computer Upgrade King, and they offer customization of RAM, HDD and SSD if you like. Our model has 16GB DDR4 RAM, a 128GB M.2 SSD and a 1TB HDD, Intel’s new AC9560 WiFi, Asus’ Aura RGB backlit keyboard and USB-C.

One more great review.. I think we are all anxiously waiting for the HP Spectre X360 Vega. Probably similar performance in a much nicer package and can be used in a business environment also… Looking forward to it!

v0rtx says:

I’m torn between this laptop (but the 1070 with 144hz screen) vs the alienware 15 with same specs except 120hz. I’m leaning towards this but wouldn’t it overheat like the alienware laptops?

sdushdiu says:

Does this unit support an LTE SIM for anywhere remote connectivity? Thanks, Lisa.

Is there any prospect for 8 cores anytime soon? The number of cores makes a huge difference in many scientific computing applications (parallel computing)

V M says:

I was really hoping to see this laptop as a true gaming configuration like the model that is available in my country. GL703GS-E5027T. Because I would be very interested about the gtx 1070 and 6-core heat output and 144Hz ips 3ms screen with g-sync support. I would have also liked to know that is the optimus possible to enable in softaware like in the newest zephyrus M model when not playing to get better batterylife. And is the third 5V fan any good in there..? But now it’s not the same machine 🙁 But thank you for the opening the laptop. It’s probably the same with more expensive models.

Fong Ming says:

Until Asus can fix their mediocre cooling designs in FX and GL series laptops, I would continue avoiding and not recommending them
