GOD TIER HEADPHONES? Worth It? – Sennheiser HD 650 Review

It’s not every day that you get to review a pair of headphones that cost $500 – I wanted to see what you get for that huge price. The Sennheiser HD 650 is an extremely high-end headphone that provides an incredible dynamic range, kickass mids and bass, and clear (but not painful) highs. But the physical form factor… that’s a different story.

Product on loan for review.

Specially developed acoustic silk was used to provide uniform attenuation over the entire area of each ear-cup. The lightweight aluminum voice coils ensure a remarkable transient response, while the full range drivers offer a frequency response of 10 Hz to 39.5 kHz. Great care was taken to ensure the headphones are comfortable with their elliptical design which naturally adapts to the shape of the ear.”

@ 0:55 “with the right eq”? are you using your own EQ settings? tut tut it’s flat or not at all my friend 😉 Nice review, I have the HD380 pro and they sound amazing for the price I got for them (£100).

Manuel Jenkin says:

They should conform to your head, loosen up a bit and become more comfortable (lots of people refer to a used hd650 to be endgame for comfort). Alternately you can bend the metal pieces on the headband a bit to speed up that process.

Tech Sway says:

Tbh, I love the looks of the HD 650 but I ended up getting the Bose QC35’s as I wanted to lose the cable for when I’m travelling as I love them. Using budget AKG451’s at work but I’m considering these for the daily drive on my PC to replace the Astro A40 TR that I’m using but you mention for larger heads they may not be too comfortable so I’ll have to see if i can try them before buying.

RojasTKD7 says:

The HD 650 can be found for the $350 to $400 relatively easily. Heck B&H has them for $315 right now. I would pay $499 for them.

HD 650 are considered very good “audiophile” headphone, but definitely not a summit-fi headphone (or what I think of when you say “God” headphones).

One day I may save up and actually get something like the Focal Utopia, now that’s summit-fi, and priced like it.

The Sennheiser HD (HD598, HD 600, HD650) line are considered some of the most comfortable headphone out there. But like anything else, there are some for whom that won’t be the case. I, myself found the HD600s to be super comfy. I think you more the exception then the rule when it come to comfort and teh HD600/HD650).

NeonAssasin says:

I’m here from the stream 😉

brian abdul yamasaki says:

I have had the 650’s for a year now, they are the best hands down, but you need to get a sound card to get the best of the 650’s, then its another world of difference.

MrTCOOPS16 says:

What would you say is a good set of headphones for someone wearing glasses who would be gaming(PC/PS4), editing, or just using the computer for extended periods of time?

joy almanac says:

gs1000 > 650

HyperDrive says:

Great video, very informative cheers!

Lorenz Kern says:

can u make a review of sennheiser momentum wireless.
cause I’m not so sure if they would be comfortable for me cause the comfort is a big point for me when it comes to buying headphones.

PAINFULLY HONEST TECH says:

I just reviewed the hd600, which are the originals that the 650 was supposed to improve on. Haven’t had the opportunity to check out the 650 but the 600 are amazing and and I had none of the fit issues you had. Sennheiser just sent me the new hd599 to review as well.

Have you tried the hd600?

Score Moore says:

amazing video can you do a review on the behringer HPX2000 headphones, I wanted to use this for podcasting and voice over feedback.

Mario Gutierrez says:

I wish I had seen this before I bought the 650s. The clamping force of the HD650 is UNBERABLE for my wide head. The 598SE in comparison I can listen with for hours. I’m returning them.

RockyRhodes-III says:

I love my 650s.

John Smith says:

Hey adam I have a question I was hoping you could answer,
I love your video about the headphones but my question is about your audio when you play games. My keyboard and mouse keep making a lot of background noise. I am using a focusrite scarlett 2i2, cloudlifter, and re320. Even when I set my gain to 0.04% the keyboard still picks up. Are you able to edit out the clicking noises? They bug me a lot when I make videos. Thanks.

ActualKarma says:

haha im good with my 20 dollar pair of skull candy ear buds.

Krishna Das says:

Like the dramatic lighting. But I can’t see the right side of your face :

Liquid_sky liquid says:

fidelio x1 are better the 650 only pull ahead with real tube amps.I own both and he’s dead wrong about comfort though the 650 are one of the lightest most comfortable headphones ive ever put on my head way more comfortable than akg’s.

DerMauch - Bärtiges Wissen! says:

Had the HD 600 and they were amazing!

Larsy4K says:

hello my frend

Yūrei Otaku says:

I wish I could afford to have a pair of headphones that cost that much. I have been looking at the Status SM CB1 headphones, have you every tried them?
