Syma Z3 Drone Optical Flow Version Flight Test Review

This folding camera drone automatically hovers while you focus on taking video and pictures instead of flying. Find it here and try coupon IBXPXH192H

– Portable folding drone.
– Optical flow position hold automatically maintains the drone’s hover position without need of input from the pilot.
– Surprisingly good and maneuverable flier.
– FPV video is viewed, and 720p HD video is recorded directly to your phone via the Syma FPV app. App can be downloaded directly from Syma here
– Uses 2.4Ghz WiFi. This drone’s WiFi should work with most phones and tablets.
– Also includes altitude hold and headless mode.
– 3.7V 850mah battery provides over 9 minutes flight time.

– Does not have an SD card slot. Instead video is recorded directly to your phone via WiFi, with inherent WiFi lag and frame dropping.

Ugh, soooo many kinda-nice quads ruined by lack of on-board storage…something that would’ve added almost nothing to the cost+build complexity. 🙁

Yet another disappointing brushed offering from Syma, which continues to lag behind other manufacturers. The so called 720 P camera is no better than the camera which came on the original X5C-1 .. probably not as good to tell the truth. The Wi-Fi signal freezes up as usual and is of poor quality. Why build a ‘selfie drone’ which can hold its position (in light winds) and put such a lousy camera on it? Why continue to use brushed motors which will inevitably need replacement? They do have brushless quads, with better cameras for less than $100 now. IMHO, Syma is stuck in a rut. If you have to get a Syma, they are still selling the X5C-1 (no TX or Cam) for $22.95. Add an X8 TX for $15 and you’ve got something which has 200 m range and will out-fly this thing 8 days a week for $20 less money. Oh well … I’m sure there are some people who just love Syma, and will buy this thing. (YMMV)

This is not bad but needs on board SD card.

Still looks remarkably like the XK X300 only with folding arms. For all that it isn’t bad at all but I still prefer the XK. Especially the 5.8 version 😉

I have not watched a drone video for a while now. But for the price it certainly seems impressive. Would you recommend it for newbie flyer like myself? As always excellent video by the way.

simon LIAO says:

it is much better with 1080p and SD no board.

Hate the battery

DeadlyDiddly says:

Considering they’re around the same price and have similar capabilities the MJX X708P looks like a much better bet.
