iPhone 7 Plus Camera “Real World Review”: A DSLR Killer?

iPhone 7 Plus Camera Test “Real World Review”: A DSLR Killer? http://froknowsphoto.com/iphone7plusrwr/ download sample RAW files right here.

Let’s start of by putting one thing to rest, the iPhone 7 Plus is NOT EVEN CLOSE to being a DSLR Killer.

This is the first time I am doing a “Real World Review” with a mobile phone but due to all the hype about the dual camera system of the new iPhone 7 Plus I think it’s warranted.

All images shot with the Apple iPhone 7 plus using ProCam 4 App shooting RAW and editing in Adobe Lightroom CC.

He is dragging it out so much
It’s a phone, it’s obviously not going to be as good as DSLR
He’s expecting it to be as good

Ralph Gehteha says:

Digital Bokeh is a really poor function. As usual, with the bigger developer community of the Android world, such apps have been around for years. You have to define foreground, middle ground and background, running into the same issues like with any desktop app in terms of translucent areas or fine details. Then it applies different levels of blur. Obviously, no transitions. Maybe Apple comes up with some new technology in this respect but I doubt it’s even possible. You can immediately recognize this fake Bokeh because it’s… fake.

Petar Boshnakov says:

Regarding the straight parallel lines – a viewfinder? or I am missing something?

Lightroom now supports RAW for portrait mode, for anyone interested.

jeremy mack says:

Jared I came across this trick by accident

I was just messing around see how close I can be to an object for deep effect to work I used a pop can I was pretty close to it so the deep wouldn’t activate I was distracted for lil bit
When in portrait mode if you cover up the 1st camera for few seconds maybe longer then uncover it you will get more light in to the camera and the deep effect icon will turn yellow

Then also if you don’t want to keep messing around trying to get it to activate deep effect you can tap hold to lock av/ae well deep effect is active and it will stay in deep effect

NJA2k8 says:

I’d like to see these photos on your rapid fire critique. They’re mostly snapshots! Ha

Is it just me or he’s holding the phone the very wrong way then making it harder for him to capture his subject on a weird angle.

Uzzawal Minz says:

phone camera maker do so much innovation in such a small sensor and limited space.
why not DSLR maker do such things in that much huge body, sensor and lens.

Ronald Langley says:

Fun review! For what its worth, the shot of the two girls at the Holocaust memorial is an awesome shot, despite the slight mis-focus. Printed and sized appropriately, it would look fairly sharp anyway!

Doug Kirschbaum says:

Jarad!! Thank you for an Steller Review buddy!

Phased Spaces says:

blackcatooow says:

Why such a long video

Pallepop909 says:

That DSLR killer titel is gettin old tho. and anyone with respect for himself as a photographer would never use it. phones are never gonna replace or (KILL) a DSLR.. it somehow makes you look less serious to even use it IMO

Jpk Channel says:

Iphone( and other phones generally)
-Compact( no need for a bulky camera bag)
-Easier to use
-Shoot and Edit on it( with DSLR you got to export, work with your pc bla bla, better results but more time wasted)
-Weather sealed( my so called entry level Nikon d5500 cant even handle a little cold)
-Security features( fuckn call 911 or use gps when lost in the Jungle, dslr cant do that)

DSLR
– Just better image quality, which most people do not care about.

bryan gonzalez says:

Cut your hair

Victor Jacobson says:

Love myself a talented hairy guy with a nice ass, lol.

Super Great Review. Lot of Thanks Jared

kris wilkinson says:

Is it me or is he holding it upside down a lot? I know it can be used either way, but that’s why his thumb keeps getting in the way

Chris Gardner says:

You can turn on the grid for lining up images in the camera settings

Amit Budhraja says:

Next time please do a bit more research before making an episode on a particular subject. Buy a decent case with a good grip instead of looking like an idiot (incapable of holding a phone). And there are quite a few high quality accessories for lens, selfie sticks and gimbal options.

Arek Nieinteresujsie says:

still dont know who the fuck is fro

Christian Evans says:
